Epsilon Advanced Materials' Rs 9,000-Crore Anode Plant in Karnataka: A Game Changer for India's EV Ecosystem
Battery materials manufacturer Epsilon Advanced Materials is gearing up to set up a Rs 9,000-crore anode plant in Karnataka, with an annual production capacity of 90,000 tonnes. This massive investment will be executed in two phases, with Rs 4,000 crore allocated in the first phase and Rs 5,000 crore in the second. The plant is expected to begin operations by the end of 2026 or early 2027.
Karnataka, already home to over 45 EV startups and numerous R&D centers, is set to further solidify its status as a hub for electric vehicles (EVs). The plant will help build a sustainable ecosystem for EVs, producing high-performance graphite anodes crucial for EV batteries, thus reducing India's dependency on Chinese imports, as China currently dominates the market for anode materials. Epsilon aims to enhance the performance of these materials to support faster charging and greater durability, essential for the growing EV market.
In addition to this project in Karnataka, Epsilon is also expanding with a new plant in Odisha, further demonstrating the company’s commitment to contributing to India’s energy transition and bolstering the EV industry
